Professor Josh Bowling

Owner & Head Instructor, Resilience Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy

Josh Bowling began his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey in August 2003. Over the years, his dedication to the art has taken him across the globe to train and compete, including two trips to Brazil. He has also studied Judo, with international training experience that includes time in Romania alongside members of the Romanian Judo team.

In 2016, Josh earned his black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Mauricio “Tinguinha” Mariano of the Tinguinha Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy. He was promoted to first-degree black belt in 2019 and second-degree black belt in 2022.

In February 2018, Josh opened Resilience Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Visalia, California. Since then, he has been dedicated to sharing his knowledge and passion with his students and building a strong, supportive community on and off the mats.

Josh’s commitment to service and discipline also stems from a 20-year career in law enforcement. He was hired by the Fresno Police Department in 2003 and brought with him 3½ years of prior law enforcement experience. During his time with FPD, he worked in patrol and multiple specialized units, including a street-level tactical team, a multi-agency gang task force, and an undercover surveillance and apprehension unit. He finished his career as a full-time instructor at the department’s Regional Training Center, where he was the lead arrest and control instructor and taught all aspects of use-of-force. His extensive experience and training earned him recognition as a department use-of-force expert.

Josh retired from law enforcement in December 2024 and now devotes his time fully to Resilience BJJ, where his focus remains on developing his students both technically and personally through the art of jiu-jitsu.
